A church in Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria was attacked by unidentified armed elements on Sunday (June 5).
A group of armed men broke into the church on the morning of the 5th, detonated several improvised explosive devices, and then shot at the worshipers. Dozens of people were killed on the spot and many others were injured. The injured were being treated in a local hospital.
On the 5th, Mr. Akredolu, the governor of Ondo State issued a statement calling on local residents to stay calm, saying that the state government had informed the Security Department of the attack and asked relevant agencies to send personnel to restore social order in the former incident area and pursue the attackers. </p>
