Sweden's Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released a report on 13thJune, predicting that the number of global nuclear weapons may increase in the next 10 years, which is the first time increase since the end of the cold war.
It’s estimated that as of January this year, the world had 12705 nuclear warheads, 375 fewer than the same period last year. However, as all nuclear weapon states are upgrading their nuclear arsenals, the number of nuclear weapons in the world is likely to increase in the next 10 years.
The report says that more than 90% nuclear weapons in the world owned by Russia and the United States. As of January this year, Russia has 5977 nuclear warheads, of which more than 1600 may have been deployed. The United States has 5428 nuclear warheads, 1750 of which have been deployed.
