President Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee will meet with Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao president, via video link on December 3, 2021 to witness the new rail link opening.
The China-Laos Railway with a total length 1024 kilometers starts from north, Kunming, Yunnan province of China to the south Lao capital Vientiane. It will strongly promote the communications and exchanges with goods and materials between two countries and regional countries, and will improve strong confidence and impetus for future development.
The Railway makes the distance between Vientiane to Sino-Laos border shorten from 2 days to 3 hours, arriving in Kunming within one day. China-Laos interconnection will have a leapfrog development, making two countries close tightly.
Meanwhile, the Railway will change the “land-block” status of Laos and link up with Burma, Thailand and other countries in Indochina Peninsula, making the Pan-Asia railway network more clear. China will have closer ties with the countries in the Indochina Peninsula, and the interconnection of countries in the region will usher in new historical opportunities.
